What We Do
The mission of AIL is to empower all Afghans by providing comprehensive, quality education, training and health services in order to foster self-reliance, critical thinking skills, community participation and economic independence thereby transforming lives and communities.
The Afghan Institute of Learning seeks to help the most needy in Afghan society. We operate in three broad areas: education, health and training. Our founder, Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, realized that only healthy people can learn and improve their lives.
AIL's Health Program runs clinics and Community Health Worker posts giving health care and health education.
Education is crucial to the development and the realization of potential in individuals and communities. AIL is expert in providing educational opportunity in all manner of topics from literacy, math, computers, English to traditional Afghan arts and crafts. AIL also has a program that contributes to culture revival providing classes in carpet weaving, glass making and other arts.
Training is another broad area of AIL's work. Training good teachers is central to creating a high quality educational system. People need training in many areas such as: peace, elections, good governance, health, women's empowerment, leadership and democracy so they can model and then rebuild the core values of a society based on respect for all and providing economic opportunity and care for all.
AIL runs a Legal Aid clinic for poor women and also provides Emergency Aid when problems arise such as bad winter weather or flooding and earthquakes
AIL is also does Supporting work by providing support to the private Radio Meraj and to private school programs notably in the area of leadership training and girls coding.
Afghanistan is recovering its culture and progressing towards being a society that respects equal rights for all and opportunity for all so that individuals can reach their potential and contribute fully to society.
